Ingredients
- 1 pack of rectangular puff pastry (refrigerated section)
- 250 grams of sour cream
- 120 grams of smoked ham, cubed
- 100 grams of grated cheese (cheddar, gouda, or mozzarella work great)
- 1 egg yolk + 1 tablespoon of milk (for egg wash)
- A sprinkle of black pepper, oregano, or sesame seeds
- Fresh rosemary for gargarnih
HOW TO MAKE
Step 1: Preheat and Prep
Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
Step 2: Roll and Spread
Unroll the puff pastry onto a clean, lightly floured surface. Spread the sour cream evenly over the entire surface. This adds creaminess and keeps the inside moist.
Step 3: Add the Good Stuff
Sprinkle the cubed ham and grated cheese evenly across the pastry. If you want to get creative, you can add thin slices of tomato or olives too, but the classic version is perfect as is.
Step 4: Fold and Slice
Carefully fold the pastry in half lengthwise, pressing gently so the layers stick together. Then, using a knife or pizza cutter, cut the pastry into strips about 2–3 cm wide.
Step 5: Twist and Bake
Take each strip and twist it gently several times, then lay it flat on the prepared baking tray. If desired, brush each stick with egg wash for a shiny, golden finish. Sprinkle with herbs, black pepper, or sesame seeds for extra flavor and crunch.
Step 6: Bake to Perfection
Bake in the preheated oven for about 15–20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed up and golden brown. Keep an eye on them toward the end to avoid over-baking.
Step 7: Serve and Enjoy
Let the sticks cool for a few minutes, then serve warm. They’re crispy on the outside, cheesy and flavorful on the inside – a guaranteed hit with kids and adults alike.
These puff pastry sticks are not only tasty but also highly versatile. Serve them as appetizers, school lunch snacks, or even with soup or salad. Once you try them, you’ll be making them again and again with love of the recipe station.
